No training wheels!

Today (August 19th) was like any other Sunday and C wanted to go to the school to ride his bike. He is still using training wheels, even though I have pushed him and he has asked to take them off once or twice. He never did really get it and he always wanted them back on, and this was at home so I never really let him go, because of the limited space on our sidewalk. So we went to the school today with training wheels and he did his usual ride around the schools playground, then he took off and was bored of the bike and wanted to go to the actual playground with play structure. He is really getting good at the play structures too as he can now do some of the monkey bars and most everything else. After nudging him back from the play structure he hopped back on the bike and we cruised back toward the school playground for more riding. I asked him if he wanted to try without training wheels and he said yes. I was not holding out a lot of hope, but C was eager and he helped me take the wheels off with the crescent wrench. C then promptly hopped right on the bike as I held it by the seat, and before I had a chance to give any instructions he started pedaling and he was off, I let go and Carson was riding his bike! It was amazing, he did so great and was not afraid one bit, it was like he had been doing it all along. I do think the Skuut balance bike in our backyard has helped, along with the scooter and just getting used to pedaling his bike around. I have been proud of him many times, but this was a unique experience. This summer he has grown so much as he is learning to swim as well and getting better everytime out. Now I need to get my bike going so we can start riding together.
